Our experience at the artist's studio was a memorable one. My daughter was delighted to see behind-the-scenes. The artist was so easy and relaxed--she encouraged the kids to explore and even touch her sculptures. Then the children made their own sculptures from new and recycled materials from the studio. We have great memories of the morning and think it was a perfect way to connect the artwork the children have seen to the place where all artists begin--in their studio.

My son loves Miss Christine's Art Camp. On one of his first days he came home with a really well done still life of a plate of fruit. It was on canvas and surprisingly well executed for a 4 year-old.

Both of my kids love Miss Christine's Art Camp, and it is a really unique program. They spend each session exploring in theme (such as lines, sculpture, opaqueness) and view art in the context of the theme and create an art project based on the theme. The kids learn about art in a much deeper way than just completing art projects. And they feel very home at the museum.

My daughter adored Art Camp with Miss Christine. She learned an unbelievable amount about artists and the de Young. When we visit the museum as a family, she takes us on the tour, commentary included!

"My two older children go to Summer Art Camp together, and they love it. Because of Miss Christine's personality, they really seem to learn about the museum experience and to view it as fun. My husband and I took them to another museum recently; we were pleasantly surprised that the kids wanted to bring their notebooks so that they could sketch the artworks they liked. It's fun for us to take out-of-town guests to the museum and to have the kids act as "docents"– they can identify the art because of Art Camp."

"Art Camp has been a great source of fun and learning for our children. They love visiting the museum and discovering something new and then creating a project based on what they've just experienced. The combination of going to the museum, experiencing and viewing real art and then having the chance to express their reaction by creating a project is a great way to learn."
-Shannon, mother of Keeley (age 8) and Ainsley (age 6)
"At our Art Camp studio visit, the children were able to become part of an artist's world -- to see where she lives and works and to understand the sources of her inspiration. It was a unique opportunity to speak directly to a working artist, and to become engaged with new ideas about art. With Christine's gentle guidance -- and surrounded by a studio filled with artwork, animals and books -- the children created beautiful sculptures. They expressed their own creative responses to what they had experienced. We can't wait until the next studio visit!"
